It all started on July 27th when I was FINALLY able to go to the doctor for a UTI. For those of you that have gone through a UTI you know how horrible those days of waiting to get an appointment or to feel better can be. I was very proud of myself though. I was drinking a whole big bottle of Cranberry Juice (not cocktail) every day and another big one of water! So... July 27th came and I went to the doctor. He did a general look over, a UA (urine analysis), and prescribed me with antibiotics. He also informed me that I should be taking my vitamins (like I haven't heard that before...) but being a good patient I gladly went to get my 1,200mg of Calcium and 400IU of Vitamin D-3. I was to go back to the doctor on Monday (August 2nd) to review the results of the UA.
So here we are August 2nd and I am feeling so much better! The doctor sits me down and hands me the results of the UA. Now, I know that my husband is a doctor and that means I am more affluent of medical terms, but most of this paper looked like it was in a foreign language. I did notice that there were some areas that were in bold and some results that had a star next to it. With the doctor's help I learned that I was currently dumping white blood cells out of my urine and that my culture came back negative (no growth in 24hours). So, I knew there was an issue since dropping white blood cells is not the thing to do... so I wondered what it could be. I had no idea that my doctor was going to propose something so outside the realm of my thinking. He suggested that there were at least two explanations for this. A. the test results were wrong (which he figured was probable) or B. that I may be infected with Tuberculosis. This frightened and surprised me. TB was so far out of my mind that I thought he must be thinking I am someone else. He said he wanted to run another UA and administer a PPD skin test (a TB skin test). I sat numbly in the chair and stuck out my left arm... the nurse assured me that it would not hurt. I had been through this before to get my teaching job two years ago, so I know she was just being kind. The bubble appeared, the skin test was done, and I was to report back on Thursday August 5th for the reading and UA results....
